CASC Brochure Cover Competition

This entry was posted by on Tuesday, 10 May, 2011 at

Folks, if you have interesting graphic visualizations of compelling research, we have opportunity to showcase this on a national scale.  The Coalition for Academic Supercomputing (CASC – publishes an annual brochure which is circulated to a number of federal funding agencies (NSF, NIH, DoD, etc.) as well as members of congress.  They are asking for visualizations to include within the brochure as well as the cover. Wouldn’t this be a nice place to showcase GT research!

Below, I’ve included further information from Tom Furlani (Director, Center for Computational Research at SUNY-Buffalo) about submitting.  The deadline is May 27.

I am pleased to announce the start of the competition for the visualization to be used on the cover of the 2012 CASC Brochure.  Visualizations not appearing on the cover may be used on pages inside the brochure.

In terms of resolution, the bigger the better, especially for the cover.  Something along the lines of 3K x 3K pixels or better for the cover.  Along with the images, the following must also be included.

  • MUST be 300 dpi
  • Contact – email and telephone information
  • What are we looking at? Paragraph explaining science, people or building
  • Researcher – full contact information
  • Which CASC member supported the visualization

To gain a sense of previously submitted images as well as those used in our publication, please go to:

You may find these guidelines helpful.

  • Illustrative of research underway at the center submitting the proposed images
  • Focus on research that offers a broad representation of what CASC members have undertaken
  • Timeliness of visualization (e.g. the Gulf Oil Spill viz last year)
  • Exhibits Intellectual merit
  • Provides scientific, cultural, economic impact
  • Compelling, visually interesting, lively, colorful images in a high-resolution format

To submit your entries for the coveted CASC Brochure cover (and images for inside) please go to the following url
